My point is Pop punk has been around for so long that it has been divided in so many ways that it's a wonder how we keep track of it all! This "newer" brand of pop punk consist of bands like: ADTR, FYS, (so called easycore), TSSF, State Champs, Real Friends, Man Overboard, etc, and also an influx from "emo revival" (see newer bands like Modern Baseball, You Blew It!, Front Porch Step, The Front Bottoms, etc. led the way for the whole power-pop thing, which is undeniably pop punk but somehow way more poppy and lost some grit (see 5SOS, Metro Station, Boys like Girls, other bands we don't really talk about on this sub). Then bands like MCR, the Used, Good Charlotte, etc etc split one way and played the "emo punk" angle which was brought on by older 80's bands like the Cure, and other bands like AAR, ATL, MCS, etc. (this is now mid/late 90's to early/mid 00's). If you wanna get super technical, there have been a bunch of waves of pop punk, starting in the late 80's, early 90's with bands like Green Day, the Offspring, Pennywise, Rancid, Bad Religion etc., the so-called "killers of grunge." After Green Day made it huge with Dookie and a few other bands put out notable albums (don't want to tangent too much) A second waves of bands came on the scene that are usually comprised of Blink, NFG, FOB, Sum 41, Yellowcard, etc. HEY!!
